Dark Green Velvet Underglaze

It darkens to a forest green at cone 5 and becomes slightly darker at cone 10. A clear glaze deepens the colour significantly at any temperature. This colour can shift under a zinc-bearing clear glaze, so a zinc-free clear is the safer choice over it. Velvet is AMACO's underglaze line. It is opaque, matches the colour in the jar and is fine enough to hold detailed brushwork. Brush it on wet clay, leather-hard clay, greenware or cone 04 bisque, whichever stage suits the piece. It fires anywhere from cone 05 to cone 10, and left bare it dries to the soft matte finish it is named for. Three to four brush coats give full coverage, and it can also be sprayed or layered. On its own it is not food safe, but it becomes dinnerware safe once a food-safe clear glaze is fired over it. Fire a test tile with each new batch. Select colours are also available in gallons.
