STH

Kemper STH · Broad thumb-shaped blade · Presses and smooths over a wide area · For building and joining rather than detail

A broad, thumb-shaped blade for pressing and smoothing clay over an area wider than a point tool covers.

STH is Kemper's sculptor's thumb. The shape is the description: a broad rounded blade that does what a thumb does - press clay into place and smooth it over - in places where an actual thumb is too big or would leave a print you then have to remove. It suits building and joining rather than detail. On a figure it closes a seam along a limb in one movement, where a smaller tool leaves a series of marks you then have to blend.
