Redart is an earthenware clay with a great deal of iron in it, and it fires red. It makes up the bulk of a terra cotta body, and it goes into slips, terra sigillata and glazes as well.
Redart is an earthenware clay, air-floated fine, carrying a great deal of iron and very little alumina. It fires a light orange at the bottom of its range and deepens to a full red as the temperature climbs, with about cone 4 as the ceiling — past that the ware slumps, and at stoneware temperatures the iron dissolves into the glass and the red turns brown. Terra cotta bodies are built largely on it, casting bodies are sometimes made from it alone, and throwing bodies usually pair it with a more plastic clay. It is the base of a red terra sigillata, and it goes into slips and into glazes as well.
