RB8 is the 146 mm (5 3/4 in) rib in Kemper's potter's rib range. The profile is a large half-round D: straight base, semicircular top, no notch. Kemper cuts these ribs from smooth-finished hardwood. A rib does two jobs at once on the wheel: it trues the wall and it compresses the surface, which is what closes up the throwing rings and reduces the chance of an S-crack later.
