Ravenscrag Slip is a light-coloured, low-iron silty clay that melts to a glaze at cone 10 with nothing added but water. For a clay it is notably short, with little plasticity to it.
Ravenscrag Slip goes on at cone 10 by itself and fires to a silky, satin-matte surface. At cone 6 it wants help, and about a fifth of its weight as added flux brings it into range and takes the surface glossy. It also goes into other glazes in smaller amounts, where it holds the slurry in suspension, spreads evenly and dries hard without settling. Brushed onto greenware or bisque it will take several coats without crawling or cracking as it dries.
