The orange sponge holds the most water of the three, which is the point of it: on the wheel you want a sponge that carries enough water to finish a pull and enough capacity to lift slurry out of a base afterwards. It gives water back readily, so it is the wrong sponge for a final wipe where you want the surface left dry.
Mudtools make them from a biodegradable material rather than natural sponge.
