Mid-sized kidney shape · One near-straight edge, one curved · Blue = firm flexibility · Throwing, hand-building and sculpting · Rounded ends · Hanging hole
$0
The mid-sized kidney rib, with one long edge close to straight and the other gently curved. The one to start with if you are only buying a single rib.
Shape 1 is the middle of the range and the one that covers the most jobs — big enough to cover ground on a thrown wall, small enough to still get into the inside of a bowl. One long edge runs almost straight, which is what you want for compressing or truing a surface, and the opposite edge curves gently for following a form. The ends are rounded, so it will not dig in if your angle drifts. Blue is the firm grade: it holds a line under pressure rather than flexing away. Central hole for hanging.
