Shape 3 - wide rib · About 13 cm (5 in) wide · For platters and large forms · Fewer passes over a wide surface · Red = very soft flexibility · Polymer, no sharp metal edge · Hanging hole

Shape 3 is the wide one, roughly 13 cm (5 in) across, and it exists for large work. Red is the second-softest grade.

On a big platter or the outside of a tall form the extra width means fewer passes and fewer seams between passes. On anything small it is unwieldy, and that is the trade: it buys coverage and spends manoeuvrability. Red is the second-softest grade. It follows a curve rather than correcting one, which is what you want for burnishing and slip work and wrong for truing a wall. Polymer, so there is no metal edge to bruise the clay. Central hole for hanging.
