Shape 2 - workhorse kidney · Larger working edge than Shape 1 · Built for throwing and surface smoothing · Too large for tight interiors · Red = very soft flexibility · Polymer, no sharp metal edge · Hanging hole

Shape 2 was built for the wheel. Red is the second-softest grade.

It is larger than Shape 1 with a longer working edge, so it takes a whole wall in fewer passes and compresses as it goes. Off the wheel it is the shape for smoothing a slab before it stiffens. The size that makes it efficient on open forms is the same size that keeps it out of tight interiors. Red is the second-softest grade. It follows a curve rather than correcting one, which is what you want for burnishing and slip work and wrong for truing a wall. Polymer, so there is no metal edge to bruise the clay. Central hole for hanging.
