LRB14

Cone 14 · Bends 1388°C (2530°F) at 60°C/hr (medium) · Bends 1366°C (2491°F) at 150°C/hr (fast) · 63.5 mm (2½ in) tall, ceramic · Mounts in a cone plaque, clay pat, or wire holder — 51 mm (2 in) exposed at 8° · Endpoint is a 90° bend · Orton footnotes cones 13 and 14 as different compositions · Contains crystalline silica — do not grind or breathe the dust

Bends at 1388°C (2530°F) at 60°C/hr, or 1366°C (2491°F) at 150°C/hr. For industrial firing above cone 12. Mounts in a cone plaque, clay pat or wire holder.

Cone 14 in Orton's large regular (LRB) series, for use on the kiln shelf. Orton publishes its bend at 1388°C (2530°F) at 60°C/hr and 1366°C (2491°F) at 150°C/hr. Orton footnotes cones 13 and 14 as different compositions with their own temperature equivalents, so the figures for this one do not sit on the same curve as the rest of the series. Cones from 13 upward are listed for industrial firing. Not free-standing: mount it in a cone plaque, clay pat or wire holder with 51 mm (2 in) exposed at 8°. A 6 mm (¼ in) error there shifts the bend by more than half a cone.
