K36

Kemper K36 · Nylon cutting line, toggle handles · Will not rust or kink · Slices clay from the block · Stretches slightly more than steel wire

A clay cutter strung with nylon rather than wire, with toggle handles. Nylon will not rust and leaves a slightly different cut face.

K36 is Kemper's nylon toggle clay cutter: the same job as a wire cutter, done with a nylon line and toggle handles. Nylon has two practical advantages over steel wire. It cannot rust, so it survives being put away wet in a bucket of tools, and it will not kink - a kinked wire drags and leaves a line you can feel. It stretches a little more than wire under a hard pull, which is worth knowing if you are cutting a large block rather than a manageable one.
