K27
Kemper K27 · Sgraffito tool · Cuts through slip or underglaze to the body · Clean edge lifts the coat instead of dragging it
$0
A sgraffito tool for cutting a line through slip or underglaze to the clay beneath, where the contrast does the drawing.
K27 is Kemper's sgraffito tool. Sgraffito is drawing by removal: you coat the piece in slip or underglaze, let it set to the right stiffness, then cut through the coat so the clay body shows as the line. The whole technique lives or dies on the edge of the tool, because a blunt one drags the slip into a burr instead of lifting it away. Timing matters as much as the tool. Too wet and the line closes behind you; too dry and the coat chips rather than cuts.
