The basketweave roller carries an over-and-under basketweave - a woven texture that reads as a made surface, and one that suits pieces meant to look built rather than thrown. A hand roller patterns a slab in one pass, which is the argument for it over a stamp: the design repeats continuously as far as you roll rather than needing to be placed and re-placed, so a border or a whole surface goes down without visible joins.
