AL10 is the 254 mm (10 in) caliper in Kemper's aluminium range. The use is not really measuring, it is repeating: set the arms to the inside diameter of a gallery and every lid you throw afterwards can be checked against the same setting without a ruler entering the conversation. Aluminium keeps it light, which matters because a caliper lives on the wheel head next to wet hands rather than in a drawer. Kemper makes 8, 10 and 305 mm (12 in) versions; pick by the largest diameter you actually throw.
