KI-68 Honey Crystal Kiln Ice Crackle Glaze

Kiln Ice is a crackle line made for the look of traditional Guan ware. Apply 4 coats over cone 04 bisque and fire to cone 5. The crackle forms as the glaze cools and can keep opening for up to 48 hours after the kiln is unloaded. Carry the glaze around edges and rims so the pattern runs into them, and keep the thickness even so the crackle stays consistent. It needs a manganese-free clay body, since other bodies can make it crawl, and it is not recommended on slip-cast ware. It is not a layering glaze. AMACO rates the line food safe but does not recommend it for food surfaces because the crazed surface is not durable enough. Fire a test tile with each new batch.
