Spectrum's 1430 series is a cone 4/6 stoneware glaze made to look like one colour floating on another: a second colour rises to the surface in the firing, and the glaze breaks lighter over rims, edges, and texture. It is a glossy reactive glaze, so the result shifts with firing temperature (cone 6 fires differently from cone 5), glaze thickness, and the clay body; Spectrum has fired it on white, buff, red, and black bodies. Apply three brush coats to bisque and fire to cone 5. Spectrum rates the series cone 4 to 6, 1190 to 1230°C. Lead-free, but this colour carries copper above the non-toxic threshold, so it is hazard-labelled in the jar and Spectrum does not rate it dinnerware safe.
