Spectrum's 1420 series is a cone 4/6 ash glaze for the electric kiln. It is translucent and oxide based, and it is made to gather and run the way a wood-ash glaze does in reduction. One thin coat is enough, on its own or over another glaze, and because the colour comes from oxides it makes new colours where it overlaps. It pairs well with the 1100 series and the 1500 Nova glazes. Apply one thin coat to cone 03 to 05 bisque. Spectrum rates the series cone 4 to 6, 1190 to 1230°C. Cone 5 is the recommended firing. Lead-free and dinnerware safe when fired to temperature. It carries metal oxides above the non-toxic limit, so it is not rated non-toxic in the liquid state.
